Greenworks 24V Underhood Light Review

Apr 30, 2024

Professional mechanics and automotive hobbyists know that having ample light coverage, especially under the hood, is essential. Oftentimes, we’ll reach for a trusty flashlight or even a headlamp to illuminate our work area, but those aren’t always the best option either. The Greenworks 24V Underhood Light is here to shed a little extra light on our mechanical projects while freeing up our hands to continue working.

The Greenworks underhood light features three brightness settings ranging from 400 to 1200 lumens that flood a vehicle’s engine bay with LED light. Simply press the power button to cycle between output modes.

The main beam is fairly clean but there are still a few noticeable lateral artifacts near the edges. However, they don’t really affect visibility while the light is in a static position.

In terms of color temperature, the LED light is mostly neutral, if not slightly on the cooler side of the spectrum. This is especially important for correctly identifying wires and reading small part numbers under the hood.

This 24V light sticks to a traditional design but there are a few handy features, too. In total, the arms stretch out to 80 inches which is more than enough for most cars and pickup trucks. Additionally, the padded hooks rotate 360° so you can aim the light right where you need it.

Underhood lights aren’t traditionally for their compact nature but Greenworks’ dual-hinge design allows each arm to independently pivot up to 90°. Each side has integrated stops that prevent the light from slamming closed with you’re using it. This folding action also allows the light to fit into larger toolbox drawers which is especially important if wall and counter space are limited.

This underhood light kit retails for $129.99 and comes with a 2.0Ah battery and charger. Greenworks backs the light and battery with a 3-year limited warranty.

The Greenworks 24V Underhood Light definitely earns a thumbs up from our testing team. Between the multiple output modes, folding design, and attractive price tag, Greenworks really puts pressure on the competition in terms of overall value. If you’re in the market for a new underhood light to replace your old-school fluorescent model, we recommend you consider the Greenworks WLG907.
