Brazil vs Switzerland suspended after floodlights go out as World Cup clash plunged into darkness

Jun 27, 2023

BRAZIL'S World Cup clash against Switzerland was momentarily suspended when the lights WENT OUT inside the stadium.

The floodlights at Stadium 974 in Doha suddenly stopped working just as Brazil were about to take a corner on the stroke of half-time.

Luckily they flashed back into life just seconds later to ironic cheers from the crowd.

The game then carried on as normal after the 44,000 seater arena was plunged into darkness.

For a brief moment, the advertising hoardings at the side of the pitch were the only things illuminating the stadium.

In total the lights were out for around seven seconds on the stroke of half-time.

Fans were quick to take to social media to joke about the drama after a drab first-half between the two sides.

One quipped: "Lights off for a sec was highlight of the game Brazil vs Switzerland."

A second joked: "Game so s*** the floodlights died."

And a third added: "They turned the lights off on the Brazil Switzerland game because it's getting boring lol."

A late Casemiro stunner gave Brazil a second win in two games and sent them through to the knockout stages with a game to spare.

Both Brazil and Switzerland went into the Group G clash having won their opening games of the tournament.

Tournament favourites Brazil beat Serbia 2-0, while Switzerland edged past Cameroon 1-0.

And Brazil got the job done against the Swiss without Neymar after he damaged his ankle ligaments in the win over Serbia.

The forward posted a gruesome picture of his swollen ankle ahead of the second game against Switzerland.
